Happy Monday!
"So far the only ones with weapons are the UN troops." That is supposed to be encouraging! This was part of an email we received from Jim Huffman in Monrovia, Liberia. You may be wondering if we are still talking about Hume Lake, and, yes, we are as part of the Pointman Leadership Institute.
This trip has been scheduled several times, and twice cancelled due to severe political unrest (that means killing in the streets, and a U.S. State Department memo advising all Americans to avoid travel to Liberia.) A recent newspaper article stated it this way, "Corruption is so rampant in the tiny west African nation of Liberia that people say the easiest way to wealth is a government job."
It was into this fray that two Hume Lake Christian Camps' staff (Jim Huffman and Bob Phillips) went, specifically to teach about ethics as part of the Pointman Leadership Institute. They were granted the opportunity to present a new anti-corruption seminar for about 45 top leaders of the current government, including the President of the country. Afterwards, 35 remained behind to hear a presentation of the Gospel, and at least 12 indicated they would like more information about receiving Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
This year alone Pointman has been, or will be in the following countries: China, Liberia, Russia, Congo, Albania, Bolivia, Mexico, Philippines, England, and South Africa.
More to the story, but I promised I would keep these brief.
Kept,
