Happy Monday!

We just sent 12 kids home. Not because they were in trouble, but because they were part of the first session of our 4 week Caleb program. It is designed for high school students who have already shown an ability to lead. They have a "different spirit and have followed God fully," as it says in Numbers 14:24.

The teaching for Caleb is intense and focused. You may have noticed the "2" on the one girl's forehead. It is not a tattoo, but part of an exercise where the students learn the importance of servant leadership (God first, others second, and I am third). They write a "3" on their hands so when they look at anyone else, they see a "2", but when they look at their own hand they are reminded of their place in their priorities.

On one of the last days, they hike 14 miles to climb Alta peak (11,200 ft.), which has incredible views of the high sierras, all the way to Mount Whitney. I am always struck by the conversations and questions that come up along the trail. I think this is why Jesus chose to walk everywhere with his disciples. (And the fact that they didn't have Harleys back then.)

This weekend, why not take somebody on a hike? It is a great way to reconnect with someone special, and with God.
