Happy Monday!
I like Hume Lake's programming; the speakers, music, seminars and even the games. I believe we run a great program. But last week I was subtly reminded that just being in the mountains has its own effect on the campers who come to Hume. God has hidden treasures surrounding us, if only we take a moment to explore.
Take a look at these two junior high reprobates. They have skipped out on recreation! (Notice the crowd at the swimming pool just over their shoulder. That's where they are supposed to be!) Clearly these boys are up to no good. Once I spotted them, (right outside my office window) they didn't run, or blame someone else. Instead, they turned and proudly showed me their discovery--a frog.
I decided not to turn them in to our Meadow Ranch staff. How could I? Look at those faces! They skipped all of recreation, and were still out there when I finally left for lunch. These two athletic young men could have helped their team gain more points, but instead, they found themselves fascinated by the simple, slimy wildness found on the edges of an open meadow.
Maybe, just maybe, God was reaching these boys through their own curiosity. Maybe, just maybe, they were also curious about the Gospel and are going home with a new commitment to Christ, the Creator of frogs.
