Happy Tuesday!
Yesterday as I was walking across the camp I walked past several Hume vehicles and was amused by the variety and condition. When I was a kid I wanted a sports car really bad. A Jensen Healey to be exact. However, like most kids, I had no money. I needed someone to just give it to me. I have since noticed that it is rare that people just give away cars…until I came to Hume Lake. We are in constant need of vehicles to move people and material around Hume, so sometimes someone will just give us their old truck.
Someone will drive their truck until it barely runs and then they give it to us. Though it may be on its last leg, we tend to squeeze another 10 to 15 years out of them. In some cases it is good that the donated vehicles are old because some of our young staff are just learning to drive and they are discovering the immovable nature of trees and rocks.
On the other hand, several supporters of Hume have gotten in the habit of donating vehicles that are in superb condition, and that is a HUGE blessing. Our vehicles range from golf carts to Zambonis (used to resurface the ice rink, click here to paint your own Zamboni).
If you have a spare truck, Zamboni, or Jensen Healey that you think might work well at Hume, please contact us. There are still more trees to hit!
