Thinking Thursday!

This week Focus on the Family interviewed a father and daughter (Heather Stone) who had written a book: "Daughters Gone Wild, Fathers Gone Crazy." It is the story of a troubled, rebellious teen and the struggles of a loving Dad trying to keep his daughter from self-destruction. Dobson asked what "was the turning point," and Heather answered: Hume Lake; specifically the Joshua Wilderness Institute. Then Dobson said, "Thank God for that program. Hume Lake is a great place, isn't it?" (Listen to the broadcast here.)

Maybe 20 seconds of dialogue. The phones started ringing, and the emails started pouring in. We received over 60 emails from desperate families searching for a place that might help their child in crisis. One mother in South Carolina didn't want to send her son to California to get things right, so she thought to search for "Hume Lake East" and got the Hume East page on the Hume Ministries site.

Someone once asked me, "Where does Hume come up with the ideas for new ministries?" It's simple. We listen. We listen to God, and we listen for a need. Today I am wondering how many Heathers are out there.

I think I'd better get back to work.
