Happy Friday!
Seven years ago Hume partnered with a ministry in Costa Rica to launch La Montaña Christian Camps, located in the cloud forest. Eugenie and I had the opportunity to be in Costa Rica for the dedication of their brand new chapel able to seat 500-600 people! I was also invited to sit in on their meeting of the board of directors, and was encouraged and blessed to hear that they have the same passion Hume has for reaching young people with the Gospel.
During the dedication, a local government official took the stage simply to congratulate the camp on its accomplishments. Instead, he began to talk about the previous week where he had been touring some of the lower income areas of a nearby city. He spoke of the squalor, the poverty, and the broken lives. Then, he contrasted it with the new chapel and the hope that would come out of the lives changed by the camp.
Then, he stopped. "As of today I will be doing everything in my power to get these young people [from the local towns] to this camp to hear of the hope you are offering; and that includes providing the financial resources so that they can attend."
Wow! Can you imagine the State of California recognizing the impact of Hume Lake, and deciding to pay to send kids to a Christian camp? God is doing some very cool things in Costa Rica!
