Hume Lake Christian Camps - Week In Review

Happy Monday!

I was at my desk when I heard a loud noise. At Hume loud noise is not uncommon, but this had a different, metallic sound to it. I rushed out to find a tree had fallen near Black Oak Lodge. Trees often fall during winter storms, but rarely during summer. Even more unusual is for them to hit something (other than the ground).

A beautiful pick-up truck was parked right in the tree's path. Thankfully, no one was in, or near the truck. One of our staff men was trimming grass near the tree, and it just narrowly missed him. The question remains, "When a tree falls in the forest and there is no one around to hear it, does it make a noise?"

In this case, after the tree fell, the noise really started. There are well known faces of Hume (Kenny Poure, Glen Zimmerman, Bob Phillips, Eroc Simpson, or Rich Baker). There are others that few have ever seen or even know exist. When this tree fell, they showed up, bucked it up, and cleaned it up. And then, they disappeared again. They are a small part of our staff, but they maintain the grounds, and if they do their job well, you might never even think about them.

We have a lot of staff working behind the scenes. These young men are just some of the team that makes Hume so successful. If you have ever been one of them, I would love to hear from you with a story from your days doing the invisible tasks!

Watch where you park!
