Outdoor Education Camps | Overview | Details | Print Version |
Hume Lake's Outdoor Education program has been continuously growing for over two decades. We have been striving to improve the quality of the program as well as the quantity of interesting classes. Each week begins on Monday afternoon and continues through lunch on Friday.

Throughout the week, we present fun and educational classes where the students can look at the world around them and see how God's hand plays an awesome part in everything. We offer exciting games for both campers and counselors to allow the students to see their leaders in a different light, and vice versa. The evenings consist of powerful chapel times led by some of Hume's favorite speakers, who will challenge your students to grow in their walk with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Fall 2008 Class Descriptions

CLIMBING:
Once described as dancing in the vertical plane, climbing is a total body workout. Students are taught the fundamentals of rock and sport climbing. This class is a great confidence builder, both physically and mentally.

SIGNS OF THE CREATOR:
Intelligent Design is a controversial topic in the Academic World. As students explore the complexities of nature, they will learn to discern the fingerprints of God.

FLIGHT:
From birds to squirrels, bats to seeds, nature loves to fly. This interactive class aims to teach the principles of flight, combined with an opportunity to build gliders and practice flying skills. We will also investigate the properties of air currents and attendant forces that impact flight.

ORIENTEERING:
With the advent of handheld GPS systems, basic route-finding skills are dangerously deficient. This class is a throwback to ‘Old School’ competence. Map reading, compass aptitude and terrain navigation are still the fundamentals of safe backcountry travel and survival.

ORNITHOLOGY:
Birds are some of the most fascinating and inspirational creatures that God has made. Students will examine study-skins in addition to learning important keys to field identification.

RIFLERY:
Virtual Gaming has birthed generations of people with inaccurate attitudes regarding firearms. Lack of appropriate training is a leading cause of accidents. We place strong emphasis on the proper respect, handling and safety of any firearm. Competitive target shooting is a focal point of this class.
